Leicestershire Based Health and Safety Engineering Risk Management Experts, Finch Consulting, Celebrated their Thirtieth Year in Business in 2022.
Established in 1992 as HSEC and RHMA offering Consultancy and Expert Witness Services, then in 2016, a rebrand was completed to become Finch. They have held a programme of special events to mark the occasion throughout the year including a 30th birthday party for employees, clients, and friends of the business which was celebrated in September.
Managing Director Dom Barraclough looks back on 30 years of Finch, whilst keeping an eye on the future.
What was your aim when starting out?
We were aiming to develop “Consulting Experts”. By integrating two reputable engineering, health and safety businesses some ten years ago, one that provided Consulting services to industry and the other providing Expert services to legal and insurance clients, we started to create a Community of experts who were demonstrably pragmatic and remained current.
Highlight of the company, proudest achievement?
Having the capability to assist on two multi-million pound matters and a multi-billion arbitration infrastructure case, alongside the several hundred annual instructions in engineering, health and safety we receive each year.
Most difficult time?
The near collapse of the personal injury market during COVID. Although our organisation had always been agile and our criminal instructions had grown significantly, we were able to use this time to adjust the ratio between criminal and civil work. This proved to be vital business risk mitigation.
How has your companies services changed over 30 years?
Our Experts are now more highly trained in their duties in both civil and criminal procedures. With our own in house Counsel and recognised external providers, our Experts undergo initial and continual professional development.
Most memorable case?
A multi-million pound construction engineering claim for a large offshore windfarm.
What would you like to see changed in your industry?
Expert shopping, and an increase of Legal Aid for all parties including Experts.
How did you celebrate your anniversary?
A 30th party with colleagues and clients, supporting our chosen charity Mind. But we prefer looking forwards, so planning for the next three decades and beyond!
Where do you see Finch in 30 years’ time?
Although London is an international centre for alternative dispute resolution (ADR), we want to build on our current capability and experiences by operating internationally with clients in other Legal Jurisdictions.
