2024 has been a year when expert evidence has been much in the news. This year’s Expert Witness Conference on Friday 8th November 2024 will be delving into landmark cases and other important issues to help enable you to keep up to date with what is happening in the industry, to ensure you steer clear of pitfalls and can continue to offer a first-class service to the courts.
Speakers include:
Paul Philip, Chief Executive of the Solicitors Regulation Authority - Should there be new regulation to ensure solicitors exercise due diligence in selecting the right expert and do not try to influence the opinion proffered?
Sam Townend KC, Chair of the Bar - How can the professional relationship between barristers and experts be improved?
Robert Ward KC (Hon) Commissioner of the Criminal Cases Review Commission - Where does expert evidence fall short as revealed in reviews by the Commission? Robert will be accompanied by the CCRC's In-House Counsel, John Curtis. There are indications Letby may apply for a review of her trial.

Also the Annual Expert Witness Survey conducted with the Law Society Gazette will be published on the day of the conference. Topics included in the survey cover improving standards of expert evidence, instructing the right expert, sanctions, mentoring and the professional relationship with solicitors, new methods of working (including AI and remote evidence giving) and fees.
