Lauren Sutherland QC and Nadine Montgomery in conversation with our panel of representatives from medicine and law.
Webinar | 15 June 2020
4pm-6pm
Following the landmark Supreme Court decision in the case of Montgomery (Appellant) v Lanarkshire Health Board (Respondent) (Scotland) [2015] UKSC 11 the issue of consent has preoccupied medics, patients, and lawyers.
We want to encourage medical and legal professionals to engage on this hot topic – to facilitate better understanding of how this decision should be implemented in clinical practice, what it means for patient safety, and how it should be approached in litigation.
Lauren Sutherland QC, Ampersand Advocates, was a member of the legal team on the Montgomery case. We are thrilled to welcome her, alongside special guest; Nadine Montgomery, our legal panellists; Dr Simon Fox QC, Paul Sankey, Enable Law and medical panellists; Dr Chris Danbury, Consultant Intensive Care Physician, Mr Paul Thorpe, Spinal Surgeon, Mr Tim Dudderidge, Urologist, Mr Simon Britten, Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Professor Bob Freeman, Consultant Gynaecologist and Mr George Turner, Consultant Ophthalmologist.
The webinar is designed for:
– Doctors and healthcare professionals at any stage in their career; and
– Lawyers with a practice or interest in medical law generally, at any stage in their career.
Lauren and Nadine will open the event with their journey to the Supreme Court followed by Lauren giving a short presentation on Consent, before joining our legal and medical panellists to discuss some of the issues raised, and address questions from viewers.
We will be also be recording the webinar to make it available for purchase after the event.
