Psychological assessments for civil, family and criminal cases. Over 30 years of experience in assessing post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, depression and anxiety, chronic pain, malingering, treatment planning and outcome, fitness to plead/stand trial, and professional negligence.
Dr Kari Carstairs obtained her BA in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford in 1982. She graduated with distinction for her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Widener University in the USA in 1991. She returned to the UK to work in adult mental health in the NHS. She is registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and she has been in private practice since 1993. She qualified as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in 2017.
In 2004, she obtained the Cardiff University/Bond Solon Certificate of Expert Witness Accreditation. In 2011, she obtained Diplomate status with the American Board of Assessment Psychology, with a sub-speciality in forensic assessment. In 2015, she served as consultant editor for test reviews with the British Psychological Society. She supervises and consults to other psychologists and she carries out research in psychological testing with a particular interest in the Rorschach. In 2022, she completed training in supervision with the Guild of Psychotherapists.
She has worked with people with all sorts of psychological problems and mental health disorders, in settings ranging from a college counselling centre through to in-patient psychiatric wards. She has given evidence in the criminal and civil Courts, in Family Court, in an Industrial Tribunal and in Magistrates Courts.
