Professor McCarthy is a Consultant Rheumatologist based in Dublin. She has an excellent knowledge of rheumatology. She is author of more than 100 publications, including original research, invited reviews and book chapters, with particular interest in: crystal-Induced arthritis, osteoarthritis, calcium crystal deposition disease, inflammatory arthritis and polymyalgia rheumatica.
Professor McCarthy has undertaken medicolegal work since 1999, in the provision of reports and as expert witness for a variety of cases, in particular those related to rheumatology/musculoskeletal disorders. She has attended court many times in Dublin.
