Dr Peter James is a Consultant in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care based in Hampshire. He has clinical interests in Ophthalmic Anaesthesia, having performed nearly 10,000 audited local anaesthetic blocks for ophthalmic surgical procedures as well as having over 27 years as a consultant anaesthetist with a special interest in local and general anaesthesia for eye surgery including paediatrics. He has also undertaken anaesthesia for eye surgery (local & general) at the Western Ophthalmic Hospital, London ; The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada; Great Ormond Street Hospital , London. Dr James is widely published, and has been elected to the National Council of the British Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Society since 2009. He assists in reviewing and writing articles for the Journal as well as organizing conferences and running workshops. He lectures on anaesthetic practice for eye anaesthesia and teaches trainee anaesthetists and eye surgeons safe and effective techniques for ophthalmic anaesthesia. Dr James also has over 35 years experience in Orthopaedic anaesthesia of all types for orthopaedic & trauma surgery. He regularly undertakes 4 or 5 orthopaedic or trauma operating lists every week, involving both general & local anaesthesia. Dr James has been closely involved in changing practice and management of anaesthesia for fractured neck of femur patients.
