Dr Hensiek is a Consultant Neurologist at Cambridge University Hospitals with excellent experience in clinical and academic neurology.
She graduated from the University in Duesseldorf, Germany but conducted her clinical training as a medical doctor in the UK.Her junior doctor training in general medicine was completed in Scotland and London where Dr Hensiek also passed the membership exams of the Royal College of Physicians. Dr Hensiek then trained in Neurology for a period of seven years at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London, The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
Dr Hensiek was appointed as Neurology consultant at Addenbrokes Hoptial Cambridge, Papworth Hospital Cambridge and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn in 2008. Her current post involves assessing patients on an outpatient and inpatient basis, as well as acute neurology patients at Addenbrookes Hospital.
Dr Hensiek manages patients with all common and rare neurological disorders, including conducting the motor neuron disease clinic in Kings Lynn. Whilst the majority of her work involves general neurology, Dr Hensiek has a subspecialty interest in hereditary neurological disorders. Dr Hensiek conducts specialized neurogenetics clinics in Cambridge, including clinics on hereditary spastic paraparesis, ataxia and tuberous sclerosis.
Furthermore, she is the neurology lead of the Cambridge national clinics for the Neurofibromatosis type 2 and ataxia teleangiectasia and contributes to the development for assessment protocols and clinical studies into these disorders. Dr Hensiek is an educational supervisor for the neurology trainees in Cambridge and regularly participates in teaching of junior doctors and medical students.
Dr Hensiek assesses and manages a range of neurological symptoms and conditions including:
• Headache (such as migraine, tension type headache etc.)
• Dizziness
• Sensory disturbance
• Disorders of gait and movement
• Parkinson’s disease
• Multiple sclerosis (MS)
• Epilepsy
• Stroke
• Coordination problems and ataxia
• Memory disorders and Dementia
• Hereditary neurological disorders
• Peripheral nerve and muscle disorder
Dr Hensiek has medicolegal experience since 2009, including personal injury reports, medical negligence reports and reports for the GMC. She currently receives an average of 60 instructions per year, which comprise of roughly 80% claimant, 10% joint reports and 10% defendant reports. Dr Hensiek also prepares reports for the General Medical Council. Attendance at court as required. Draft reports are available on request.
