Mr Alan Norrish is a Clinical Associate Professor of Trauma, Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Nottingham and a Honorary Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals, based at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, which hosts the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, serving 4 million people, the busiest Level 1 Major Trauma Centre in England. Alan Norrish finished his specialty training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in July of 2007, having completed training in the East of England. During his more than 30-year career studying and practicing medicine, Alan Norrish has focused on complex lower limb trauma and orthopaedics with sub-specialty interests in reconstruction of complex lower limb fractures, bone and joint infection and fracture non-union. Alan Norrish also regularly performs hip replacement.

Alan Norrish has had a wide-experience having worked as Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon in Zambia, the Middle East, Afghanistan, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in King's Lynn and now Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Since first being appointed as a Consultant in 2007, lower limb trauma and reconstruction surgery has been Alan Norrish's main subspecialty interest. From Africa to Afghanistan, Alan Norrish has treated a full range of patients with complex acute and chronic orthopaedic and trauma conditions. Alan Norrish founded and co-led a multidisciplinary regional bone and joint infection service when working in Cambridge. Alan Norrish also has significant experience of the use of mega-prosthesis for complex trauma and infection indications as well as experience in periprosthetic fracture and non-union surgery, in addition to lower-limb frame reconstruction and amputation. The majority of Alan Norrish's current practice is complex lower limb trauma, general orthopaedic trauma and hip replacement.

Mr Norrish specialises in orthopaedic medicolegal reporting for both personal injury and clinical negligence. He has a strong track record of expert witness work in these areas. Instructed both by Claimant’s Solicitors (~60%) and Defendant’s Solicitors (~30%) and occasionally as a joint expert witness (~10%).

Clients are usually examined within 2-4 weeks from receiving the instructions with medical records and he is able to return a completed high quality, evidence-based report normally within 4-6 weeks from examining the client.

Where clients do not need to be examined, e.g. for liability assessment in clinical negligence claims, the report can be returned normally within 4 weeks from receiving instructions and all relevant documentation.

Mr Norrish is willing to accept UK-wide instructions, with consultation rooms in Cambridge, King's Lynn, Nottingham and London. Consultation rooms in other cities are available as needed. Mr Norrish is experienced at working through translators as needed. Instructions undertaken for Legal Aid work, criminal cases and public and media relations.

Mr Norrish has lectured nationally and internationally, is widely published and runs courses on the management of orthopaedic trauma.
