BSc(Hons) Mechanical Engineering, PhD Mechanical Engineering, Chartered Engineer
Staffordshire and surrounding counties
I aim to offer a one-stop service for clients trying to better understand how a product has come to fail.
I am an experienced mechanical engineer, by training. I am a chartered engineer and have worked in the University sector since the 1980s. In addition I have started and run my own companies since the early 2000s. I am an author of engineering books: one of which, Medical Devices Design, is in its 2nd edition and is widely used by academia and industry. I am named inventor on several patents: many of which cover products that are being used across the world. In addition I have widespread knowledge and understanding of the standards and regulations that cover medical devices in the UK, EU and USA.
In addition I have spent many years in testing within the university sector, by that design and construction of testing machines and use of testing machines. I conducted tests, for example, for a well known domestic ceramics company, helped with the development of tests for industrial conduit carriers, and developed a new test for clothing seams supported by iron in support materials. Furthermore, through my medical devices experience, I am au fait with testing for electronics and computer supprted products, In that regard I am able, with my own facilities at Keele or by using my contacts, to suggest suitable tests for products that have failed in service.
In addition, I am a patent holder and have spent numerous years filing patents. I am able to offer expert witness support relating to technical issues wihtin patent dispute.
Significantly I am very conversant with medical devices standards and regulations. I have numerous devices that I have designed that are in the field: equally I have worked with other companies to help them get their own products into the field. To this end I am able to offer expert witness support in areas where either the use of, misuse of, or unintended use of a device is concerned within a medical claim.
I am happy to have preliminary conversations to ascertain whether a brief is within my skillset.
All work is conducted through Keele University, hence you may be assured I have the required insurances in place.
