Mahmoud A Hafez is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, UK & Egypt. Honorary Visiting Professor, Cardiff University, Wales, UK. Professor of Orthopaedics, October 6 University, Cairo, Egypt and New Vision University, Tbilisi, Georgia.

He was trained & worked in UK for more than 20 years, passing through basic (SHO) & higher surgical training (SpR), arthroplasty fellow, then locum consultant.

He has an excellent knowledge of Orthopaedics with special interest in PSI, Navigation & Robotics, particularly in hip and knee arthroplasty. Also subspecialty experience in hip and knee arthroplasty which was gained from 3 international centres: Wrightington Hospital, Wigan, UK (2004), Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (2004-2005) and St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (2006). He has been involved with >10,000 Orthopaedic procedures including > 2000 joint replacement operations.

▪ Knee arthroplasty
• Primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA), unilateral or bilateral
• Uni-compartmental knee arthroplasty (fixed & mobile bearing)
• Complex knee arthroplasty e.g. (post patellectomy, extra articular deformity, fused knee)
• Revision knee arthroplasty using CCK and hinged knee
• Navigational knee arthroplasty
• Custom made guides (patient specific) knee arthroplasty
▪ Hip arthroplasty:
• Primary hemi and total hip arthroplasty (THA): Cemented, hybrid and uncemented with long stem or acetabular reconstruction
• Complex THA e.g. paediatric hip diseases, dysplasia, old fractures & conversion hip arthrodesis to THA
• Revision total hip arthroplasty & periprosthetic fractures
 • Arthroscopy and osteotomy around the knee
    
Mr Hafez has pioneered work in Patient specific instruments (PSI) for total knee arthroplasty. He has an interest in computer assisted orthopaedic surgery (CAOS) which started in 1998 with a one-year fellowship in navigation and robotics, University of Hull, UK. He has published 10 book chapters and, is the author of 21 patents on patient specific instruments & implants for bone & joint surgery.
