Dr. Ian Colvin

Dr. Colvin has been a GP Partner at a thriving North London surgery for 15 years, typically conducting 5 to 6 clinics per week. With 25 years of full-time NHS experience, including 15 years as a GP partner, he brings a vast breadth of clinical experience to his medical negligence expert witness work.

• Fully compliant with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules, associated Practice Direction, and the Civil Justice Council Guidance for the Instruction of Experts in Civil Claims

Medico-Legal Training: In 2024, Dr. Colvin achieved Certification as a Medical Expert Witness from the University of Strathclyde and Inspire Medilaw. This certification involved attending a two-day Expert Witness Training for Medical Professionals Course, accredited by the Royal Society of Medicine, further online training, and assessment of his written expert witness report, multiple choice examination, and performance under cross-examination by a Professor of Law.

• Data protection for medico-legal experts
• Addressing legal issues: breach of duty, causation, condition and prognosis, consent

Dr. Colvin welcomes informal inquiries and provides free initial advice. He is a registered expert with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and a member of the Medico-Legal Society. He is available for both claimant and defendant work in medical negligence cases. He is currently completing apporximately one Expert Witness Report in General Practice Clinical Negligence per month. Dr. Colvin is fully insured with MDDUS for all expert witness work.
