Dr Neil Young has been a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh since 2012.
His Intensive Care Medicine practice involves all typical intensive care presentations including sepsis, cardiac arrest, pneumonia and complex surgical patients. Additionally it includes subspecialty expertise in the management of patients with liver failure, and neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury.
His anaesthetic practice includes the perioperative care of patients having major gynaecological surgery, orthopaedic surgery and trauma surgery.
Dr Young has recent publications in the fields of respiratory failure and COVID-19. He was a co-author on the Scottish Government guidance for the management of the critically ill COVID 19 patient.
Dr Young has been providing expert medicolegal reports since 2019. He has produced these for pursuer, defence and the Procurator Fiscal service, with excellent feedback. In addition to completing an expert witness training course, Dr Young also maintains an active medicolegal CPD portfolio.
He holds a national leadership role, being the lead Regional Advisor for Intensive Care Medicine training in Scotland.
