Details

Miss Shalini Patni is a consultant specialising in Fetal and Maternal medicine and High-risk Obstetrics including Intrapartum obstetrics, for nearly 20 years. She currently works as lead on Preterm services in the trust and conducts Fetal medicine specialist clinics in a tertiary level busy unit which accepts babies of all gestations.  

Her areas of interest are Fetal medicine with advanced scanning for all fetal problems ranging from fetal abnormalities to small babies, along with preterm labour and prevention. She has over 15 years of experience in Clinical Governance and worked as
• Associate Medical Director for Governance for Division 1- 2019- Current
• Clinical Governance Lead for maternity -2013-2017
• Lead for Perinatal Mortality and PMRT- 2007 till 2023.
• Medical Examiner from 2017- Current.

Miss Patni has vast experience in report writing as part of her above roles. She has undertaken several internal and external investigations including RCA’s and Serious Incident reviews and Coroners cases. These have included the care delivery issues around interpretation and management of CTG traces; decisions around mode of delivery; failure to differentiate fetal from maternal heart rate, retained products after delivery; failure to perform a Caesarean Section at appropriate times, and decisions around place of delivery ie in a Consultant led maternity unit or other and alongside inappropriate antenatal care and delays in seeking specialist opinions for pregnancies complicated with medical problems.

She has also given expert opinions for legal claims. She is well versed with Early Notification Scheme. In addition, Miss Patni has previously produced expert reports for clinical negligence and personal injury medico legal cases some years ago, but stopped due to her excessive clinical and governance workload at the time. She has recently reduced her routine work and has returned to medico-legal work.
