Dr  Peysh Patel is a Consultant Cardiologist & Associate Professor based in the West Midlands. His NHS practice is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, a quaternary referral centre for cardiology with military links and one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country.

Dr Patel has more than 15 years’ experience in the NHS with cardiology specialist training since 2013.  

Areas of expertise are as follows:

• Cardiac devices (including pacemakers and defibrillators)
• Sudden cardiac death
• Acute and chronic heart failure
• Cardiotoxicity (relating to cancer therapies)

Dr Patel often consults and provides second opinions for patients across the West Midlands who present with challenging symptoms/diagnoses. He is fully trained in all types of device implantations (>1000 performed in total), has national accreditation in heart ultrasound imaging (BSE, 2016 & 2021) and international accreditation in cardiac rhythm management (IBHRE, 2021).

Dr Patel produces timely expert reports for both claimant and defence, typically within a 6-8 week deadline. He has undertaken extensive training including webinars led by Medical Protection Society (MPS).  He is one of the few cardiologists in the United Kingdom to hold a Diploma of Legal Medicine (DLM) with Distinction from the Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine (FFLM).  Dr Patel currently acts as a clinical advisor on the University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Clinical Ethics Committee with case discussions on a weekly basis. He also regularly receives correspondence from the DVLA to review applications for re-licensing.
