Mr. Bohra is a Consultant Surgeon at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. 

Along with Surgery in General, his special interest is Upper GI Surgery including oesophago gastric pathologies, Bariatric Surgery, and advanced laparoscopic procedures for benign and malignant conditions. In his clinical practice he covers most General Surgical emergencies and traumas along with a broad spectrum of general surgical problems. He routinely performs most elective general surgical and GI (gastro-intestinal) procedures like hernia repairs, cholecystectomies and endoscopies, along with his subspecialty procedures. His surgical training and experience spans over 30 years.

He did surgical research from Newcastle University. His research related publication won the John Farndon Prize. He was awarded the CCST after successful completion of Higher Surgical Training and entered the GMC Specialist Register to start working as a substantive Consultant in the NHS, in 2005. During the course of his training he had the privilege of working in numerous District General Hospitals and Teaching Hospitals across England and Northern Ireland. At various times he has also operated as a Visiting Consultant Surgeon at the University Hospital Birmingham, University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire and Walsall Manor Hospital, while employed full time in his own hospital. He has clinical excellence awards from his Trust.

He has an active interest in teaching, audit and research with regular satisfactory appraisals and Revalidation as a Consultant as per the DOH guidelines. He has published in various Peer reviewed journals and presented at both national and international forums. His research related publication won the John Farndon Prize. One of his research projects got the Ron Grimley Best Research Project award in Dudley.

Earlier, he was an Honorary Associate Professor of Surgery for St George's University, Grenada, Senior Clinical Lecturer in Birmingham University and Honorary Assistant Professor of Surgery at Nottingham University.

At a national level he has served as a National PEER reviewer for Upper GI cancers. As a member of the NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee (QSAC) he was actively involved in discussing, drafting and approving National Clinical Guidelines’ quality standards. He contributed to 23 Quality Standard Guidelines during his tenure at NICE. He was also invited to an All-Party Parliamentary Group Meeting at House of Commons in Westminster.

Mr. Bohra has a busy medicolegal practise since 2011. He has been working with a host of solicitors and medico-legal agencies. He has regularly attended medico legal courses and conferences and has the ‘Bond Solon Civil Procedure Rules for Expert Witnesses Certificate'. He is compliant with the requirements of Part 35 and Practise Direction 35 protocol in relation to his responsibilities as an expert. He has been regularly involved with reporting and assessing personal injuries and medical negligence claims. He has also provided expert opinions for cases in Ireland and Bahamas. He does not take conditional cases where payment is dependent on report and eventual outcome. The reports are addressed to the courts and will be factual, independent, objective and Part 35 of CPR compliant. Generally, once all notes are available, clients can be seen within a week and the report should be ready within 15 to 20 working days. It can be done sooner, if needed. He provides reports for a variety of General and Gastrointestinal Surgical cases, Accident claims, and Negligence claims. He has experience of providing report for claimants, defendants and joint representation and joint reporting. His current claimant to defendant ration is about 95:5. He has also worked for NHS LA and has been an invited speaker for NHS LA in the past.

The medico legal interest in surgical issues includes medico legal reports, case management reporting, injury or trauma including hernia, abdominal injuries, accident claim, emergency surgery, medical errors, medical negligence, clinical negligence and accident claims pertaining to general health care, symptoms, major and minor general surgical procedures and complications, and subspecialty issues related to abdominal, laparoscopic, bariatric and gastrointestinal surgery.
