Details

Dr Andrew Ian William James is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist. He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), a full member of the BPS Division of Neuropsychology, and is listed with the BPS Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. He is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Psychologist) with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Dr James has worked as a Clinical Neuropsychologist in hospital, residential, and community settings in the field of brain injury rehabilitation for over 25 years. Since 2006, he has been employed as a Consultant grade Neuropsychologist providing clinical leadership for multi-disciplinary neurorehabilitation teams. On a daily basis his clinical role is to assess the nature and severity of cognitive, emotional and behavioural changes following brain injury as well as devising and implementing treatment and rehabilitation plans in a person-centred context.

Dr James has prepared medicolegal expert witness reports since 2006. He is an expert in the neuropsychological assessment of acquired brain injury, with specialties in disorders of neurobehavioural regulatory control, as well as in neurorehabilitation and treatment for psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. He also has particular interest in hypoxic brain injury, functional cognitive disorders, and performance validity issues. 

From 2020 to present, Dr James has been a Visiting Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London, he was previously an external lecturer at University of Leeds, on the Neuropsychology module for the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. He is an external examiner for the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN) at the University of Glasgow and on the board of editors for the BPS journal, The Neuropsychologist. He holds a research PhD from the University of York in neuropsychology and has published in peer-reviewed scientific journals in brain injury and neurorehabilitation.
